Specialized Vision Testing for Police, Firefighters, Pilots, and More
At Avis Optometric Centre, we provide specialized vision testing for individuals pursuing careers that require exceptional visual performance, such as police officers, firefighters, pilots, and other first responders.
Our clinic offers visual field testing (VFT) to assess your peripheral vision and contrast sensitivity testing to measure how well you can distinguish between subtle shades and low-contrast details, both of which are essential for safety-critical professions.
Whether you’re preparing for an application, renewing your certification, or meeting ongoing vision standards, we’ll help ensure your testing is thorough, accurate, and completed according to the requirements of your profession.
Showcasing Our Technology
When you visit Avis Optometric Centre, your appointment will begin with filling out the necessary forms. Afterward, you’ll undergo a series of digital pre-tests, including retinal photography. Our team will explain each test so you’re comfortable and informed.
Following these initial tests, Dr. Avis or Dr. Lane will conduct a comprehensive exam using our modern technology to assess your eye health.
If needed, we may schedule follow-up visits for further testing or monitoring to check that your eye health is on track.
Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT)
The OCT is a noninvasive imaging technology that takes detailed, cross-sectional images of the layers of your retina. This allows us to detect early signs of conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
OCT gives us a clearer view of your eye health, helping us to monitor changes and address concerns often before they impact your vision.
Retinal Photography
Retinal photography is a key part of our exams. By capturing high-resolution images of the back of your eye, we can monitor the health of your retina and identify any changes that may indicate conditions such as macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy.
This test is quick and noninvasive, providing us with valuable information about your eye health.
Visual Field Testing
Visual field testing measures the full range of your vision, helping us detect any potential issues with your peripheral vision, such as those caused by glaucoma. This test is simple and noninvasive, helping us track any changes in your vision over time.
Corneal Topography
This noninvasive imaging test maps the surface of your cornea, the clear front part of your eye. We use this technology to assess corneal shape, which helps us detect conditions like keratoconus, provide accurate contact lens fittings, and plan for procedures like laser vision correction.
It’s quick, comfortable, and provides valuable insight into your eye health.
We only offer corneal topography if it is part of our myopia control program or recommended by your doctor.
Meibomian Gland Imaging (Coming Soon)
Healthy meibomian glands are essential for stable, comfortable vision. When these glands become blocked or damaged, it can lead to dry eye symptoms.
Our imaging technology allows us to view and evaluate the structure of your meibomian glands so we can better diagnose and treat dry eye at its source. This step is key to building a personalized dry eye treatment plan.
